INAUGURATION OF THE 5TH NPRA GOVERNING BOARD

The Hon. Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, Dr. Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo (MP), has officially inaugurated the newly appointed Governing Board of the National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA). The inauguration marks a bold step in transforming Ghana’s pension sector under the Government’s Resetting Agenda. The Minister urged the Board to “make the pension industry sound, robust, and resilient.” He outlined the Government’s Resetting Agenda, a reform initiative aimed at transforming the pensions landscape. The agenda includes:

  • A review of the legislative framework to allow support for workers who lose their jobs due to natural disasters;
  • The establishment of a Mortgage Assistance Fund to enable long-term Tier 2 contributors to access mortgage loans using their pension contributions as collateral. • Efficiency enhancement in SSNIT’s operations;
  • The Mo-Ne-Yo Initiative, which seeks to expand pension coverage to informal sector workers, including commercial drivers, Okada riders, market women, artisans, farmers, and others, as part of the broader All-Covered-Pension-Programme.

The new Board Chair, Mr. Ebenezer Ofori Agbettor, pledged transparent, inclusive leadership and innovation to improve retirement outcomes for all Ghanaian workers
